Section 1:
Nominations for chapter officers shall be made at least one meeting
prior to the election of officers.
Section 2:
A plurality vote, provided an 80 percent majority of the eligible
student membership votes, shall be sufficient for election to
office.
Section 3:
Chapter officers-elect shall be installed prior to the last meeting
of the academic term in which the election is held, with the
retiring chapter officers conducting the installation.
Section 4:
Election to fill a vacant term:
a. The Executive Committee shall have the power to make an
interim appointment to any office (except that of President) which
may become vacant before the end of the regular term. The interim
officer should only serve until an individual is duly elected for
such office.
b. Nomination shall be made at the first meeting after the
office is vacated. Election shall be held at the first regular
meeting following the receipt of nominations.
Section 5:
Certification: The Faculty Advisor and one officer who is not
running for office shall act as election judges and shall report the
results of the election to the membership. Any member of the
organization may inspect the election proceedings and records,
although such inspection must take place before the next meeting.
Voting:
Section 1:
All student members of the Chapter in good standing shall be
entitled to vote at Chapter Meetings. Faculty, Honorary, and alumni
members shall not be permitted to vote or to hold offices.
Section 2:
In the event of a tie for any office, a run-off election will be
held as soon as possible to break the tie. Only those members
eligible to vote during the first election will be allowed to vote
during the run-off election.
Term of Office:
Section 1:
The term of the officers of the organization shall commence
following the ceremonies in which they are installed and shall end
with the installation of the new officers-elect.
Section 2:
Those nominated for an office shall have the ability to hold the
position for no less than one year unless a special election is
called.
Section 3:
A special election for all Chapter offices (other than faculty
advisor) may be called at the end of a quarter/semester of the
regular academic year by
(1) an affirmative vote by two-thirds of the executive
committee or
(2) an affirmative vote by two-thirds of Chapter members
eligible to vote.
Removal from Office:
Section 1:
An officer shall be subject to removal from office for continued
absence or failure to administer the duties of his or her office
properly upon submission of a written petition to the Executive
Committee. Such petition, which must be signed by three or more
members in good standing, shall set forth the charges against the
officer.
Section 2 :
The charges shall be served upon the offending officer in writing by
another member of the Executive Committee at least ten (10) days
prior to the meeting of the organization at which the matter is to
be considered.
