The Weber State University Matthew Shepard Scholarship provides financial assistance to a gay, lesbian, bisexual, or
other
student showing academic excellence and service to the gay, lesbian or
bisexual community.
- Students must be enrolled at WSU, with a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester.
- GPA -- students with higher GPA's will
receive a higher consideration by the selection committee.
- Recipients should be sophomores at WSU, having completed a minimum of 24-hours of college credits, at least 12 of which must have been earned at WSU.
- Cash award: Up to
full tuition (in state) and fees. Award may be applied to
tuition, fees, books, or other expenses, to be disbursed per semester, based on eligibility, tuition rates
and available endowment funds. At
the discretion of the Matthew Shepard Scholarship Committee, in
addition, partial scholarships may be awarded depending on
funds available in the endowment and applicant
pool.
- Term limit: two semesters; non-renewable.
Reapplication is possible, but there will be no automatic renewal of
this scholarship.
Student applicants will fill out the WSU Scholarship application
form and complete an essay.

- Write an essay to attach to the
application form. This essay must be a typed, double-spaced application essay of about 500-750 words.
The essay will address the student’s need, academic performance, goals, and involvement in and/or service to the gay, lesbian and/or bisexual community.
- Submit essays from March 4
until April 1 to
