P'Sack' January Awardee

Jennifer Wright

Senior Academic Advisor
Academic Advising

P'Sack' Awardee of the Month

BIOGRAPHY

Jennifer graduated from WSU in 1996 and started her career at WSU in the Financial Aid office. She spent two and a half years in Financial Aid before moving to the Academic Advisement Center.

Jennifer's job in Academic Advising involves meeting with students interested in receiving an Associate Degree in General Studies. She also manages portions of the Mandatory Assessment & Placement Policy (MAPP).

Jennifer enjoys fostering relationships with her students, seeing them succeed, and eventually graduate. She also loves working with everyone in her office as well as networking with faculty and staff across campus.

Jennifer is a member of: NACADA (National Academic Advising Association)

NOMINATION SELECTION

Jennifer was nominated and selected for the following reasons:

Jennifer coordinates the daunting task of the Academic Advisement Center's at-risk programs. She is patient and professional in all her activities no matter what they entail.  Jennifer has consistently shown that she is the right person for the job.

She leads the General Studies advisors in terms of judgment calls related to the new Mandatory Assessment & Placement (MAPP) policy, particularly in the area for which the academic advising office is responsible (i.e., the mandatory advising of all WSU students who score below the minimum Accuplacer score required to place into Math 950). She also leads the General Studies advisors in their efforts related to the mandatory advisement that WSU requires of General Studies students who are on warning, probation, or suspension.

In addition to her effective leadership of the at-risk program, she is terrific with the students whom she advises. She effectively communicates with them in a way that makes it evident that she cares.

The first P'Sack' awardee was chosen from a list of nominees as the
