Congratulations
to the March WSU PSAC
P'Sack' Awardee
Robert (Rob) Holt
Student Affairs/Data Manager
Nursing
P'Sack' Awardee of the Month
BIOGRAPHY
Rob's job entails managing
admissions, advisement,
and other student affairs issues for the nursing
program statewide. The
program has almost 700 students.
First and foremost Rob likes to work with
the great students that choose to come to Weber State. A close second is
the opportunity to work with the wonderful
people in the Nursing Department and the College of Health Professions.
Rob is a graduate
of Utah State University
and holds both BS and MS
degrees. He loves to assist
students working towards health care
careers. He has memberships in the National
Academic Advisors Association and the Utah Advising and Orientation
Association (NACADA/UAOA).
He loves to snow ski, golf,
spend time with family and of course watch plenty of basketball games.
Rob is married to Jodee and
has three children.
"I am very honored to have been
nominated and selected for this great award. Weber State, Weber State,
Great! Great!! Great!!!"
NOMINATION
SELECTION
Rob was nominated and selected for the following
reasons:
Nomination No 1. If you come up to the nursing department and look
for Rob Holt he will be smiling but totally buried behind "milk cartons"
filled with red, purple, and blue folders representing the over 400
applicants for WSU nursing program student positions. Rob organizes,
reviews, scores, and prepares all applicant files for the nursing program
selections. After selections, Rob is the department’s first line of
defense when students and families need help with
admission issues. His thoughtful and easy style
and disposition allow him to effectively defuse and counsel
students in productive and positive ways.
At any one
time there are over 250 on-campus nursing students with at least another
100 to 200 in online or off-campus programs. Rob is the processing and
tracking agent for all of these students along with assisting the faculty
and students with academic advising issues and counseling. He manages and
tracks all of the HIPPA compliance, OSHA training, background checks, and
drug testing for all of the nursing students and faculty.
Currently,
Rob is also the logistics manager of the Nurse Refresher online program
that offers “re-education” and clinical practice for nurses with expired
licenses. He tracks each student’s progress through the program and
coordinates with the online faculty, clinical faculty, computing support,
and continuing education. If that were not enough, he also is involved
with recruitment and visits to potential outreach sites, high school
campuses, and other groups interested in contracting for WSU nursing
program sites. Rob is a treasure and one of the reasons that WSU Nursing
has a stellar reputation in the community.
Nomination No 2. Rob is a great student
advocate who goes above and beyond to assist in the educational goals for
nursing students. He currently is the in-house trouble shooter for Banner
problems, in particular, for those students who have transfer credits. He
assists the faculty with their student advisement to ensure students will
graduate on schedule. He always stays positive and is very pleasant to
work with, plus he is definitely not afraid of lots of hard work. At this
time of year (application deadline date) it is not unusual to see Rob
heading out the door with crates loaded with applicant files which need
his attention. He stays up on all campus happenings and shares
information with the department.
Nomination No 3. What is unique to Rob is his commitment to help. It
doesn’t matter if it is faculty, a current student or a potential student,
he does everything he can to solve problems. He will “go to bat” for
anyone who needs an advocate. For example, everyday he deals with Banner
problems that would prevent students from graduating. While many of
the faculty and staff are aware of the problem,
Rob knows just who to contact to fix it and he
does it immediately, so the student knows it has been taken care of.
Rob does
more than is required for his current job description. He does student
recruitment locally and for outreach sites even though his present
position makes him responsible for students after they are accepted in the
program.
It is not
unusual for him to have a line of students waiting to talk to him because
they are comfortable with him. He is polite and encouraging to all
students and families, even when they become angry and abusive. He has a
professional attitude and his integrity is a model for all of us.
He attends
games, supports the faculty/staff association, and
regularly wears Weber State clothing, not just on Fridays! If anyone has
purple blood, it is Rob.
