Congratulations
to the September WSU PSAC
P'Sack' Awardee
Alan Ferrin
Media Designer/Producer/EDnet Hub
Director
Multimedia Services
P'Sack' Awardee of the Month
BIOGRAPHY
Alan does a little bit
of everything in the world of electronic media. "We
produce formal videos for banquets such as CAT BASH, Hall of Fame, WSU
Salutes, etc... We help faculty incorporate digital media in their classes
- streaming, podcasting, etc... We convert media formats, ie VHS to DVD,
tape to .mp3, etc. We are involved in script writing, videography,
editing, compression, burning, etc... If there is a need for multimedia -
we try to cover it."
"Most importantly, I have a wonderful wife and
four incredible sons. I enjoy most spending time with them and sharing in
their activities and accomplishments. I enjoy sports of all kinds - if
I'm not playing, I love to watch and cheer. I also enjoy working in the
yard. I wasn't born with a green thumb, so I have spend many a evening
doing research on different plants and trees."
"Weber State has an incredible community. There
is much more money to be earned in the private sector - however, leaving
Weber would be like leaving behind family! I've always felt at home at
Weber. I am most appreciative to
incredible teammates in the Multimedia Services Department. These folks
are some of the brightest minds in the industry. I feel very fortunate to
work with them and I share any honor or recognition I may receive with
them..."
Alan was born and raised in Ogden.
"My father was a professor of Education at Weber
for 27 years. I spent my early life running up and down the stairs of the
education building. I graduated with a BS in Communication/Broadcasting
from Weber State College. I worked my way through college in the CATS
Department and after graduating, was encouraged to "stick around". The
rest is history..."
NOMINATION SELECTION
Alan is one of the unsung heroes of the campus. He films, produces, edits,
and finalizes video productions for the campus free of charge. He
works extensively with Athletics and is the trainer and support tech for
the "Jumbotron" (Prostar big screen) in the stadium. He trains all
of their student workers and oversees the production at every home game.
Alan also produces the WSU Salutes
and ESU Commencement Exercises to video and applies it to the streaming
server so that alumni and family members can view from off campus.
He is always friendly and willing to
help. In ten years, he has never been heard to speak crossly but
always apologetic if he is too busy to help out. He is always great
with Faculty wants and needs and often takes on projects for them that do
not totally fit under his duties.
Alan has four sons and serves as a
soccer/t-ball/basketball coach in his "spare" time.
